MLS Announces 2023 22 Under 22: Congratulations Caleb Wiley (Atlanta United) and Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake) – Selected 9th and 10th

October 13th, 2023

This week, the MLS has announced its list of the top 22 players in Major League Soccer under the age of 22. Included in this year’s edition of the MLS 22 Under 22 are former UPSL Premier Division players Caleb Wiley (Atlanta United Academy U19s) and Diego Luna (Barcelona Residency Academy AZ).

While with the Atlanta United U19’s, Caleb Wiley and his team participated in the Georgia Premier Division—where he featured frequently at both outside back and left mid. Shortly after his 2021 UPSL season, Wiley signed a first-team contract and became one of the MLS’s brightest young talents—scoring two goals and claiming MLS Player of the Matchday for week 3. This year, he also made his US Men’s National Team debut.

For Diego Luna, after big performances for the US at the U20 World Cup in their quarterfinal run, the creative midfielder has quietly grown into one of the league’s best young talents. The former Barcelona Residency Academy Player took part in the Arizona Premier Division for a season and was quickly signed to a first-team contract after impressive performances with the US Youth National Team. This season, Luna was also named MLS Player of the Matchday after a two-goal performance in week 26—the first time that two former UPSL players were named MLS Player of the Matchday in the same season.

This year’s list was voted on by a panel of experts consisting of select MLS staff and MLS media. To view the full list for all MLS 2023 22 Under 22, please visit www.mlssoccer.com/news/2023-22-under-22-presented-by-bodyarmor
